FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS, together with grand and challenging displays, are part of this month’s issue. And with the Trafalgar Festival celebrating 200 years of the National Gallery’s world-class art collection, it is appropriate that we have an interview

with the world-class exhibition designer Roger Mann, whose company Casson Mann has created exhibitions across the world. Te complexity of storytelling in its displays, including the Science Museum, V&A, Imperial War Museum, and across Europe, has introduced it to the scientists, historians and authors behind the stories. To resolve the challenging and sometimes difficult messages for all levels of society to access – not least to make it a successful tourist destination and fun – can be a test for everyone. Mann humbly credits the collaborations with other specialists in our industry, including those in graphics, engineers and lighting designers, for great shows. Te ‘creatives’ in our world, and I don’t just mean in

our industry but those scientists, historians and authors who have enabled us to think differently, can provide us with life-changing moments. Artificial intelligence is one example, and we have a great insight into it from Kay Hill, who explores how it compares with real intelligence. Similar insight occurred at the Design Museum last year when chief exec Tim Marlow introduced a discussion with an AI robot (called Ai-Da) and Baz Luhrmann (of Elvis film-maker fame). I think our jobs are safe – well, just for now, at least… See you soon.
