Premier Forest Products has announced the acquisition of specialist fire door manufacturing business Paul White Ironmongery, Doors, and Fixings (PWIDF).
Established in 1996 and based in Newport, PWIDF is based on Langland Way, Newport, just a short distance away
from Premier Forest Products’ head office and employs 22 staff. The company also distributes a range of accompanying ironmongery, such as hinges and locks, as well as providing a solutions-based design service for its clients.
“The acquisition of PWIDF is the perfect fit for Premier Forest Products as we
W Howard and MDF Recovery agree UK and Ireland licencing deal
UK MDF mouldings manufacturer W Howard Ltd has agreed a multi-year licence for the use of MDF Recovery’s MDF recycling technology to produce loose-fill wood fibre insulation in the UK and Irish markets. Work on a new facility in Newtown
Powys has started and first production is expected early next year.
Natural insulation is one of the fastest growing market sectors in Europe, with wood fibre’s benefits including ease of use, thermal mass, breathability and appeal to increasingly CO2
conscious housebuilders
and consumers. “As a company, we are always seeking new and innovative products that fit in our vision of ‘products in every home’,” said Jonathan Grant, group chief executive of W Howard.
“The demand for natural building materials is only going to increase and the addition of a recycled wood fibre insulation is an exciting addition to our product portfolio.”
The latest information from FAOSTAT indicates that over 110 million m3
of MDF
was produced around the world in 2021. Significant volumes of waste are generated as new MDF boards are
converted into products such as furniture and shop fittings with more material entering the waste stream at the end of its first user life.
W Howard will now also be able to recover their waste products as well as offering its customers a closed loop supply chain so they can return end of life products for conversion back into wood fibre for insulation.
“W Howard’s commitment and investment in the first production plant using our technology is a significant step forward for MDF Recovery” said Craig Bartlett, the company’s CEO. “The market, governments and consumers are all keen to encourage re-use of materials and the circular economy. We look forward to seeing W Howard’s loose fill insulation product meeting the needs of house builders and the construction industry across the UK and Ireland.” The deal with W Howard comes soon after the announcement of a global partnership between MDF Recovery and PAL, part of the Italian multi-national equipment manufacturer IMAL PAL Group, for the use of MDF Recovery’s technology in MDF manufacturing and a successful £1.7m fund-raising.
continue to expand our presence in the contract joinery sector, particularly in South Wales, and the team’s bespoke fire door offering fits seamlessly alongside our existing timber-based fire protection products,” said Terry Edgell, co-founder and CEO of Premier Forest Products. “We are confident that this partnership will drive our business forward and close a gap in our current range, further enhancing the product range available to customers.” Paul White, founder of PWIDF and member of the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers, said he was look forwarding to growing even further as part of Premier Forest Products.
Premier Forest Products is a vertically integrated timber operation engaged in the importation, sawmilling, processing, merchanting and wholesale distribution of timber and timber products from its multiple sites in the UK.
Richard Burbidge expands warehouse capacity
Richard Burbidge has increased its warehouse capacity as a result of growing demand for higher stock levels and new product development.
Following a thriving year of sales and new product launches, the North Wales- based manufacturer has installed further racking to its Chirk warehouse as high product demand for its stairpart collections called for further capacity. Throughout July and August 2023, Richard Burbidge installed the additional racking, increasing its warehouse storage capacity to over 192 locations, ranging from 3.6m and 4.2m-wide racking systems, which will primarily store more hand and base rails.
The decision to invest in the new racking system followed a series of new products that the brand has introduced. The warehouse will now have room to house any of Richard Burbidge’s new product development, including the latest ‘PaintReady’ collection, which is set to launch later this year. The range of PaintReady stairparts will be offered in multiple lengths, so further capacity was essential.
