Chilean wet-blue prices were stable for most of 2023. TR1, full substance 16mm-plus was selling at US$0.75


per square foot. Chile’s slaughter fell by 2.3% in the period from January to August 2023. Meat production was also lower by 3.5% compared with the same period in 2022. Data from the Office of Agrarian Studies and Policies show that slaughter totalled 489,670 head and beef production was 126,339t.


China


China’s hide purchasing ticked up in September. The country’s imports of raw hides under 16kg totalled


87.807 million kilos overall, 3.7% higher than in August. In terms of pieces, the increase was 3.4%, and in value, 4.5%. China’s total wet-blue purchases in September were again higher compared with the previous month. In terms of kilos, the increase was 14.4% and in value 2.3%, respectively.

DANE reported that the slaughter of buffaloes increased by 30.8% in the third quarter of 2023, compared with the same period in 2022. For this species of larger livestock, the slaughter of females and males increased 47.2% and 25.7% respectively.
