INTERMAT 2024 Ӏ SHOW REVIEW
FRENCH CONNECTION
A snapshot of the Intermat 2024 trade show, with links to exclusive Cranes Today online videos…
Over four days in April the Intermat construction trade show, held in Paris, France, welcomed 127,500 visitors from around 130 countries. This was down on the 173, 3000 figure of 2018, which itself was down on the 183,000 figure of the 21015 event. The show has perhaps suffered the most out of the three big international shows (Intermat/Bauma/ConExpo) in the aftermath of Covid. Prior to the global epidemic the
three shows had established a congenial balance in the calendar, enabling them to coexist. With Covid cancelling Intermat’s 2021 edition this balance has maybe been upset, with the French show seemingly more affected than the other two.
The decline in visitor numbers
perhaps related to the absence of a number of key manufacturers – certainly in the cranes and specialised transport sector. The lack of tower cranes, in
particular, stood out (compared to the show’s 2018 edition) as traditionally France has been a strong market for this crane type. There was just one flat-top (Zoomlion) and one fast erector (Liebherr) on display. What the show may have lacked in
quantity, however, it made up in quality. Many high-profile, familiar faces from the crane industry were in attendance, with Intermat organisers claiming, “the show acted as a business-conducive catalyst, with a widely acknowledged
increase in the proportion of decision makers [in attendance]”. Indeed, there was a quiet positivity
from many of the exhibitors and visitors we spoke to, with many keeping an open mind and there to see for themselves the state of the show and the wider industry. There was a particularly strong
presence from East Asia, particularly in the components sector, and, best of all, a number of new crane launches! It’s always exciting to see new metal and old friends at these types of international tradeshows and there is still clearly an appetite for face-to-face get-togethers. How this will translate into attendance at Intermat’s next edition, in 2027, remains to be seen.
Mapello, Italy-headquartered Locatelli Crane debuted its new 100 tonne capacity rough terrain, the GRIL 110.100. The crane’s nomenclature reflects the crane’s lifting capacity in US tons, followed by the number in metric tonnes. The two-axle crane has a five-section, 47-metre main boom; it is equipped with Locatelli’s new ‘Locasystem’ Load Moment Indicator (with a ten-inch touchscreen), variable outrigger settings, plus a new wider cab with climate control. The GRIL 110.100 is now the largest rough terrain Locatelli makes, surpassing the 80 tonne GRIL 87.80. Speaking at Intermat, Locatelli sales manager Michele Mortarino
commented, “the launch of the GRIL 110.100 is a fitting way for Locatelli to celebrate its 70th anniversary and so far the market response has been very positive.” A video of the GRIL 110.100 at Intermat can be seen here:
