SECTOR SNAPSHOT Ӏ OFFSHORE (PT 1)

business opportunities to provide engineering services including heavy lifting, crane placement planning, crane services, and wind power construction with the aim of contributing to the development of offshore wind power in Japan. “By collaborating with Vestas, one of the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturers, we hope to help strengthen the competitiveness of offshore wind power projects in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region and contribute to project optimisation,” said Uemura. Dutch heavy lifting and

transport company Mammoet is another company that has partnered with an offshore specialist with the aim of working together in the offshore wind related sphere. In September 2025 it entered into a strategic partnership with Tugdock Submersible Platforms (Tugdock) to expand the use of the Tugdock Submersible Platform (TSP) – a technology deigned to improve buoyancy, stability, and load-in/ load-out operations across marine industries. The TSP is a modular,

submersible platform that allows large floating structures to be transferred seamlessly from quaysides into the water. Structures are driven or skidded onto the TSP in a controlled process, after which the platform can be submerged or raised as required. Each unit is built from interlocking component cells, which can be inflated, deflated, and joined together to create floating platforms up to 120m by 120m, with a lift capacity of 30,000 tonnes.

LOADOUT WORK With the increase in the number of wind farms, and the size of their components, Dutch heavy lift and transport specialist Mammoet is busy with loadout work around the world. In February 2026 it announced it had completed the transport, loadout and mooring of a 5,461-tonne offshore jacket foundation destined to support the BorWin6 offshore converter platform BorWin kappa in the German North Sea.

The BorWin6 offshore grid connection is a 980-megawatt high voltage direct current connection that will transmit offshore wind energy from the German North Sea to the mainland, strengthening grid capacity and supporting the transition to sustainable power generation. The work took place at the

yard where the jacket foundation had been fabricated in Jebel Ali, UAE. Mammoet transported the structure using 216 axle lines of SPMTs powered by four powerpack units. Mammoet then used winches to support safe mooring management during critical quay activities. The jacket and its foundation piles have now been secured for sailaway to Europe.

Later this year Mammoet will complete the BorWin6 topside jack-up and weighing, with the topside expected to weigh approximately 17,000 tonnes. For this it will utilise its Mega Jack 5200 system.

In April 2026 Mammoet announced it had completed a major phase in the assembly of next-generation floating offshore wind turbines at Port-la-Nouvelle in France.

PALFINGER STRENGTHENS PRESENCE IN EAST ASIA OFFSHORE WIND MARKET WITH CONTRACT WIN

Bergheim, Austria-headquartered lifting, loading, and handling systems manufacturer Palfi nger has secured a contract to supply 35 PF 200 electric offshore cranes for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. The wind farm is located 18 to 20 km off the coast of Miaoli County and covers 58 km. Once running it will mark a signifi cant milestone in Taiwan’s renewable energy transition. The cranes have a seven-metre outreach and will be installed on jacket foundations equipped with 14 MW Siemens Energy turbines. Deliveries will take place between the second and third quarters of 2026, with installation and commissioning scheduled in Taiwan in the same year. Once delivered, Palfi nger will have installed a total of 271 offshore wind cranes in Taiwan. “The constantly increasing footprint of our reliable fully electric lifting solutions for offshore wind

is a great sign of the trust of our customers in our lifting solutions and their qualities,” said Iavor M. Markov, global key account and segment manager offshore wind at Palfi nger. “Our global experience and cooperative approach as a reliable equipment and service partner brings benefi ts to the local Taiwanese market.”
