The multiple benefits offered by self-erectors, backed by market growth in a key sector they best serve, is seeing the popularity of this crane type growing around the world. Christian Shelton reports.


The benefits of self- and fast- erecting tower cranes are being realised worldwide and manufacturers are responding to, plus stimulating, demand. Afterall, they’re mobile, offer fast set-up with minimal crew. They’re flexible (multi-trade useability) and have a very compact footprint. Remote control and driver assistance options aids are making crane operations even safer and efficient. Electric power options make them suitable for urban areas. What’s not to like? They’re perfect for those low- to mid-rise projects where lifting is frequent, space restricted, and efficiency matters more than raw lifting power. Perfect, in fact, for the construction of low-rise and medium density residential housing – which is a key area in which they’ve been used across Northern Europe for a number of years now. Despite these multiple benefits,


however, the crane type has remained relatively restricted to its densely-populated European heartland. Things, though, look to be changing…
