manoeuvrability and handling speeds, plus no loss of power at full load capacity. Applications include container handling, intermodal handling and barge handling, with attachments available for specific tasks. A Hyster ReachStacker can also be equipped with attachments for tasks like second rail handling, container dumping, barge handling and transporting steel. Here, diesel remains a strong choice, ensuring consistent power even as the fuel tank depletes. Features like on-demand hydraulics and tyre pressure monitoring also contribute to reduced operating costs. The elevated cab option provides operators with an expanded view when working in second rail operations or handling containers on a barge and even enables operators to tilt the cab backward when stacking containers at height.

Sennebogen also offers an elevating cab on its 340 G and 360 G telehandlers. Its MultiCab gives operators better visibility over trailers, stockpiles, vessels and surrounding traffic, improving both safety and productivity. In addition, customers can choose between steering wheel control,

joystick steering or a combination of both, offering greater comfort and efficiency during repetitive handling operations. Another key differentiator is that Sennebogen’s design aims to combine the advantages of a wheel loader with a telehandler. “This results in high breakout forces, excellent pushing power and extended reach while maintaining compact dimensions,” it says.

Featuring permanent all-wheel drive, three

steering modes and a wide range of hydraulic attachments, its telehandlers provide versatility for ports that are handling bulk materials, timber, recycling materials and general cargo. Meanwhile, customers choose Konecranes forklifts for their combination of performance, reliability and life cycle value. “Customers value the confidence that comes from proven uptime, strong service support, deep application expertise, an interesting sustainability roadmap and a competitive total cost of ownership,” it says. It also offers one of the industry’s widest ranges of material handling equipment. “A key advantage is the broad portfolio of container

handling equipment, allowing customers to work with a single trusted partner across multiple applications,” it adds. Konecranes cites another factor in buying decisions for reach stackers is life cycle value, or total cost of ownership (TCO).

Market trends In Sennebogen’s experience, telehandlers with capacities from 4t to 6t are the sweet spot for terminal and yard operations. They provide a good balance between lifting performance, compact dimensions and manoeuvrability. Attachments are also integral to making

telehandlers so versatile. “The ability to change attachments quickly allows operators to maximise machine utilisation throughout the working day,” it says.

In-demand attachments include pallet forks, high-capacity buckets for bulk loading, crane hooks and lifting jibs, hydraulic grabs for specialist handling and sweeping or maintenance equipment. In other areas, electric telehandlers are emerging. But battery power might not yet be right for their deployment in ports. “Battery-electric technology continues to develop rapidly, and we already see increasing demand for electrified solutions in many material handling applications,” says Sennebogen. “However, heavy-duty telehandlers operating continuously in demanding multi-shift port environments still require significant hydraulic power and long operating times. For these applications, diesel-powered machines currently remain the preferred solution.” That said, it expects electrification to continue advancing as battery technology and charging infrastructure improve.
