CEO DIARIES

Like Shewan himself, opportunities abound for apprentices at Red Rooster Lifting.

already been filled. What I did know was that I wanted to do something practical, where I was working with my hands, learning how things worked and building useful experience from the ground up. When an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering came up, I took the opportunity straight away and never really looked back from there. What appealed to me from the start was that it gave me

exactly the kind of start I was looking for. It was hands-on, it was technical and it let me learn directly from people who had real industry experience. You weren’t just sitting in a classroom. You were developing practical skills, understanding equipment properly and seeing how engineering decisions affect the real job. That combination of practical learning and formal qualification gave me a very strong foundation, and it also gave me an appreciation early on for the standards, discipline and responsibility that come with lifting work. To this day, I’m still a big believer in apprenticeships, because they give people a strong platform to build a career from. They are good for the individual, but they are also important for the industry as a whole. If we want the sector to continue developing, we need to keep bringing through new people who are willing to learn, ask questions and build real competence over time. At Red Rooster Lifting, we’re proud to invest in the

next generation through our apprenticeship programmes because that is where the future of the industry comes from. For me personally, starting that way gave me the chance to grow through experience, and I think that kind of path still has a huge amount of value today.

What makes your company stand out? What makes Red Rooster Lifting stand out is the way we approach the full lifting challenge, rather than just focusing on the equipment itself. For us, it is not simply about supplying a hoist or meeting a lifting capacity on paper. It is about understanding what the job actually involves and making sure the solution is right for the application, the

environment and the practical demands of the work. That means looking closely at the details from the outset. Things like available space, headroom, operating conditions, load path, site restrictions and the wider project setup can all have a big impact on whether a lifting solution will work effectively in practice. In many cases, the right outcome comes from asking the right questions early enough and making sure the technical thinking behind the solution is as strong as the equipment itself. A big part of what customers value is that we combine

powered lifting equipment with practical support and technical understanding. Whether the requirement is for rental equipment, a sales solution or something more bespoke, we work to make sure the customer is not just getting product availability, but also the guidance and support they need before, during and after the lifting solution is in place, helping them make the right decision for the job. Our reputation has been built on versatility, precision and

responsiveness. Whether supplying, renting or maintaining advanced lifting equipment, we are committed to making sure customers have the tools and support they need to succeed, no matter how complex the challenge. We also understand that customer requirements can vary significantly from one project to the next. Some need a straightforward solution delivered quickly, while others need a more tailored approach to deal with specific technical or operational constraints. Being able to support both, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability and service, is a big part of what sets Red Rooster Lifting apart.

What do you like about the industry? What I like most about the industry is that there is always a challenge to solve. You are always having to think carefully about the safest and most practical way to approach a lift, and that is something I’ve always found rewarding. It keeps the work interesting because you are constantly learning, adapting and applying experience to real situations, rather than just following the same process every time.
