Elizabeth (Liz) Taylor Boots, Cambuslang

Liz has seen many changes within community pharmacy since first stepping behind the counter at Boots in 1976. She has carried out various roles with the company over the past 50 years, but it’s the dispensing role that captured Liz’s heart as it allows her passion for people and doing the right thing to shine through.

For the last 16 years Liz has been the dispensing store manager in Boots in Cambuslang where she ensures the smooth, effective and safe running of the pharmacy. A real team player, she takes every opportunity to develop and recognise individuals within her team, always striving to improve the operation of the pharmacy and the care that they provide.

Janine Glen

Contracts Manager NHS GGC Community Pharmacy Development Team

There are those working within the community pharmacy sector who might not always be as visible as those who work in a pharmacy branch, but whose impact is just as important.

Janine is one of those individuals, having supported the community pharmacy network for over 35 years before recently starting her well- earned retirement.

The former Community Pharmacy Development Contracts Manager for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, was responsible strategically and operationally for community pharmacy development and contractor services. This included ensuring the Board met its statutory obligations under the pharmacy regulations, leading the PPC and ensuring contractor remuneration for services. It also meant supporting development of new services and generally being a font of all knowledge, legally and contractually, for community pharmacy, both within the board and beyond.

While much of work was done behind the scenes, Janine is incredibly well known throughout the pharmacy sector in Glasgow having played such a crucial role and overseen many changes throughout the years.

Perhaps it is Rachel Bruce, Lead Pharmacist for Community Pharmacy Development, who summed it up best when she nominated Janine: “She is genuinely irreplaceable.”

Lesley-Anne Graham Lindsay & Gilmour, West Calder Health Centre

Lesley-Anne first began working within the pharmacy at West Calder in 1995 when she was 15-years-old. Back then she wasn’t really sure what she wanted to do as a career but it didn’t take long for her to realise she had found her place.

Over the last 25 years, Lesley-Anne has gradually progressed up the pharmacy ladder and has undertaken a number of roles. Having worked as a pharmacy assistant, she then became a pharmacy technician. After Lindsay & Gilmour took over the health centre branch in 2006, Lesley-Anne became one of the company’s first accuracy checking technicians.

“Her teams have always relied on her calm approach, her willingness to help anyone who needs it and the way she quietly keeps everything running smoothly,” said Yvonne Williams, Superintendent Pharmacist for Lindsay & Gilmour.

When Lesley-Anne later had the opportunity to become Hub Manager for one of Scotland’s first robotic compliance aid dispensing systems, she embraced both the innovation and the challenge. She was instrumental in improving efficiency across multiple branches and enabling teams to spend more time with patients. After seven years in that role, she had the opportunity to return to frontline practice as manager of the busy West Calder Health Centre pharmacy.

“Lesley-Anne continues to be a trusted, familiar face. Patients value her warmth, experience, and genuine care, qualities that have defined her entire career and make her a great ambassador for community pharmacy,” said Yvonne.

Liz has great relationships with local healthcare providers and customers alike and often works outside of her remit to support them. For example, one elderly customer told Liz he was going on his first holiday since his wife passed away but explained he was scared he was going to sleep in as he needed to set off at 5am. On the day he was going, Liz phoned him at 5am to make sure that didn’t happen. Liz thought nothing of it as she always wants to support where she can, but the customer was incredibly grateful and could not thank her enough.

As well as a genuine care for the people who use the pharmacy, Liz and the team also go out of their way to support the wider community. Examples include supporting the foodbank in Cambuslang by collecting donations as well as raising money for Macmillan.
