VACCINE DELIVERY WELL UNDERWAY IN NHSDG

COVID booster and flu vaccinations for anyone in the NHS Dumfries & Galloway region aged 60 to 69 is well underway and on track for completion in early December.

Patients are being advised to book their COVID booster and flu vaccination appointment via the national portal on the NHS Inform website https://www.nhsinform.scot/vaccinebooking. Those without online access, can book an appointment through the National Helpline 0800 030 8013.

‘We’re nearing the final stages of the COVID-19 booster programme that was set out for this year,’ said Dr Nigel Calvert, Consultant in Public Health Medicine for Dumfries and Galloway. ‘This has been a programme like nothing we have ever undertaken and it is fantastic how many people have taken up the opportunity to have the COVID vaccination, COVID booster and flu vaccination.’

Full details on opportunities to be vaccinated can be found by visiting the website www.nhsdg.co.uk/vaccines/

GSK SHINGLES VACCINE NOW AVAILABLE

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced that Shingrix, a vaccine to help protect adults against shingles, is now available in the United Kingdom. The vaccine is licensed to prevent shingles in adults aged 50 years and older, as well as in adults 18 years of age or older, who are at increased risk of shingles. It also prevents post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN): a common complication of shingles.

Shingrix will be available for eligible adults to purchase via various pharmacy chains, private GP clinics and other healthcare settings where a service is set up. It is also available via the current national shingles immunisation programme for patients aged 70 to 79 years, who are eligible for shingles vaccination, but are clinically contraindicated to receive the current vaccine on the programme due to being immunocompromised.

NATIONAL PRODUCT RECALL

There has been a national recall of the Prohealth Vitamin D3 Children’s Drops due to reports of damage to the pipette.

The specific batch of vitamin D drops being recalled is LOT 2101001, and pharmacists and other retailers have been asked to stop distribution of product with this LOT number.

Patients should be advised that there is no need for panic in this regard. Although 80,000 products have been distributed across Scotland, there have only been a small number of cases reported.
