NPA IN FOCUS

Janice Oman Scotland Representation Manager

MPs’ visits to NPA member pharmacies The NPA has been busy coordinating MPs' visits to community pharmacies. Dr Lisa Cameron MP recently visited Abbeygreen Pharmacy in Lanarkshire to find out more about the services they offer. She called pharmacies ‘health hubs’ for the community and a ‘vital part’ of fabric of the healthcare system. Back in April 2020, Dr Cameron signed a parliamentary motion congratulating the NPA on its centenary and thanking pharmacies for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr Philippa Whitford MP also paid a visit to Toll Pharmacy in South Ayrshire. She was very appreciative of the work carried out by pharmacies during the pandemic.

Whistleblowing standards - resources from the NPA National Whistleblowing Standards came into force in 2021, making it compulsory for all NHS service providers, including community pharmacies, to comply. The NPA has produced resources to support Scottish members. The NPA Whistleblowing Guidance, template Whistleblowing Policy and template Whistleblowing Standard Operating Procedure are available to NPA members to download and adapt for their own pharmacy’s specific procedures. We have also included a template report form which ensures information required for NHS records is captured.

Resources from Ask Your Pharmacist Week The NPA’s Ask Your Pharmacist Week took place during the first week of November and a range of digital resources were produced to help members promote their pharmacy. These digital assets and posters can be used all year around, so do make use of them. Go to www.npa.co.uk/ayp2021 to download.
