development has enabled pharmacies to provide a safe 24/7 collection service in any accessible space outside their pharmacy premises, or any location that met local patient needs, such as health centres.

Offering 24/7 collection is a win-win for pharmacies and patients alike. Firstly, automating a proportion of ‘straight-forward’ hand-outs frees up precious staff time to concentrate on face-to- face care and enables them to embrace important new services, such as Pharmacy First. Secondly, empowering patients by letting THEM choose how and when they receive their medicines provides unrivalled convenience.

The demand for MedPoint installations increased rapidly during the pandemic as healthcare providers looked to find solutions which could help them adapt and cope. Many also started to realise that a MedPoint would complement and enhance their existing services in the “post-covid” world.

Scottish-based MedPoint is proud to announce its new partnership with Edinpharm and, to launch this partnership, MedPoint will be the main sponsor of its forthcoming conference taking place on Saturday 29 Janruary 2022. The innovative event will bring together members and other key partners to showcase what is available from Edinpharm Membership. Edinpharm would also like to extend the invite to non-members who may wish to see what Edinpharm is all about and have the opportunity to meet some valued partners. Please email richard@edinpharm.co.uk for more details.

As an ambitious group and Edinpharm members, Willis Pharmacy has now installed MedPoints in two of their pharmacies - Wallacewell Road and Clydebank - to enhance customer and patient experience.

Both installations have been very well received, with each pharmacy gaining additional patients and realising significant time savings that help relieve the strain on their pharmacy teams. Area

Manager Craig Murdoch said, ‘The MedPoint machines definitely help us stand out against competitors! It’s a real conversation starter. They help us offer patients convenience, whilst meaning we can cater for more people and their needs. Including shift workers and those who may not be able to stay at home waiting for larger prescription deliveries. People can simply call by at a time that works for them’.

Craig was keen to ensure that patient safety was put first with the installation of the MedPoints and, on reflection – post-fitting - said ‘They also help us improve safety at both pharmacies’.

In conclusion, Willis Pharmacy believes that installing two MedPoints has been a saviour for them, taking the pressure off staff and ensuring that patients are given more choice and opportunity around when and how to collect their prescription. Craig is keen to install more machines in the future.

In the space of the last twelve months, MedPoint has gone from having fewer than ten sites, to over seventy across the UK, stretching from Inverness in the north to Devon in the south. This includes the very first hospital location where MedPoint was pivotal in minimising disruption to patient services at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s dispensary refurbishment programme in August 2020.

As the demand for MedPoint’s solutions increased, so did the MedPoint team. This has grown to include several new members, including Managing Director, Gill Collins, who has over 20 years’ experience in UK and European healthcare and pharmacy automation sectors. Gill quickly recognised the far-reaching benefits to pharmacies of the automation solutions provided by MedPoint and said, ‘I am immensely proud to be working with Mark and Kevin, delivering MedPoint to the pharmaceutical community. The technology behind the units is second to none, and I honestly believe it will not only make a difference to those within the profession, but to local communities and surrounding areas too’.

MedPoint, which has its offices in Kirkcaldy, Fife, has also expanded to include a dedicated sales representative for the Scottish region. Terry O’Neill joined the team in October and has hit the ground running. He brings to the team a wealth of experience across the industry, having recently worked in the community pharmacy sector at Positive Solutions - one of the PMR providers to community pharmacies in Scotland and the UK - as their area manager for Scotland for eight years. Terry said, ‘One of the things that attracted me to MedPoint is that I was already familiar with their innovative 24/7 prescription collection solution. I believe that it perfectly complements and enhances the Scottish Government's commitment to increasing access to community pharmacy. I'm very much looking forward to working with the committed innovative team at MedPoint’.

Bernadette Brown of Cadham Pharmacy, Glenrothes in Fife now has two MedPoints in addition to her existing collection of robots, which she has had in situ for a few years. Bernadette was an early adopter of the concept and has been pleasantly surprised by the advances in the technology MedPoint offers, which allows for ease of use by the customer, as well as a quick and easy loading process for staff.

One of the biggest wins for Bernadette has been the way in which a MedPoint is loaded. The fully automated process has eliminated risk of human error and saved a massive amount of staff time over and above her other collection of machines.

Mr and Mrs Mac, as the machines are affectionately named, have offered a new way of working within the pharmacy. ‘I’d have more MedPoints if I had the space,’ says Bernadette. ‘Another great benefit of the MedPoint is that the collection unit is much bigger, which allows for bulkier items to be collected with ease’.
