FANTASTIC EFFORT BY FORTH VALLEY PHARMACIES!

NHS Forth Valley has announced that community pharmacies across the region have provided more than 100,000 patient consultations since January 2021!

Forth Valley community pharmacists have provided 114,938 consultations since January 2021 for people, who would otherwise have gone to GP surgeries or the Emergency Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. Only a small number of people (around four per cent) needed to be referred on to another healthcare professional, such as a GP, nurse or hospital-based clinician, while the majority were given advice or treatment by their local pharmacy team.

‘Community pharmacists across Forth Valley are playing a fantastic role in ensuring that thousands of people with common health conditions have needs addressed quickly, without needing to go to a GP or hospital,’ said Kirstin Cassells, NHS Forth Valley’s Lead Pharmacist for Community Pharmacy, Public Health and Integrated Services. ‘They are a prime example of getting the right care, in the right place, at the right time and local pharmacists will play an important role in providing expert healthcare advice and treatment over the busy winter period.’

FREE COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR APPS AVAILABLE!

Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) has announced that all NHS staff - and members of the public – now have free access to Sleepio and Daylight Cognitive Therapy Behaviour Apps.

Sleepio and Daylight Apps are NHS-accredited programmes provided by company Big Health, co-founded by Oxford University sleep expert Professor Colin Espie.

‘Difficulties with sleep and anxiety can have a negative impact on many aspects of people’s health and wellbeing,’ said Nicola Gilliespie, Head of Mental Health Service. ‘We are really pleased to be adding Sleepio and Daylight to our programme of digital therapies. The programmes are early intervention programmes to help teach people to learn and develop self-management coping skills, to help prevent the symptoms from getting worse, and the need for professional services.’

VICTORY FOR VOLUNTEERS

NHS Lothian has announced that Sammy McKee has won the Helpforce Champion Volunteer of the Year Award.

‘The contribution Sammy has made over the last 18+ months is incredible,’ said NHS Lothian’s Head of Volunteering, Jane Greenacre, ‘and we are so pleased it has been recognised in these national awards. The roles that Sammy has taken on as ward helper, vaccine clinic welcome guide and at the Meaningful Activity Centre are really representative of support provided by 500+ volunteers so everyone can share in this success.’
