ROBOTS PROVIDE A ‘HELPING HAND’ FOR THE FUTURE OF PHARMACY


When Nicol Baird was viewing a new, potential pharmacy purchase in Banff, his mind was already focussed on the ‘main’ issue: where to position a robot?


W


ith several decades of experience as a pharmacy contractor under his belt, Nicol is more than aware of the factors


that make a pharmacy successful. One of the primary factors, in his view, is the use of technology in general – and robots in particular.


‘When we were viewing the pharmacy in Banff as a potential acquisition, we were automatically thinking ‘where is the best place to put a robot?’ When it comes to installing a robot, space is a primary concern as you only get one chance to pick the right size of robot,’ Nicol told SP.


‘At that time we already had five pharmacies and each had one or two robots, so it was obvious that we would be installing another one in this new shop.


‘The pharmacy – Scotts’ Chemist (now Bairds Pharmacy) - had been in existence for around 50 years. The previous owner had recognised that it was time to modernise the pharmacy and felt that, since it needed renovation, it was time to sell. It’s a big pharmacy and had previously had a
