Warehouses cover several forms of storage including floor storage, high and low-level pallets and racking, bins storage and picking areas. In narrow aisle racking areas, it is important to provide adequate illuminance at floor level between the racks without too much light on the tops of the racks. Therefore, the designer will need to know the positioning of racking and suspended equipment to ensure luminaires mounted at height are positioned correctly to avoid shadowing and provide illuminance on the required surfaces. Certain storage facilities need specific lighting, e.g. cold stores require luminaires that operate effectively at low temperatures.
