CIBSE Guidelines of LG01

Industrial Lighting It is widely recognised that good lighting positively influences productivity. It is important that lighting is considered within the overall design process and should meet the needs of flexible working spaces. When lighting an industrial environment, the lighting designer has to consider the processes taking place, the risks involved and safety of personnel.

Lighting Guide 1 covers industrial lighting applications. The primary purpose of LG1 is to provide guidance to enable people to see to perform work, and is referred to by lighting engineers, specifiers, facility managers and end-users. The Industry sector covers many activities including production, treatment, manufacture and distribution. LG1 considers different industry sectors, suggesting best practise solutions for specific lighting issues within that particular industry.

The guide also includes legislation where relevant and individual industry characteristics have been aligned to BS EN 12464: Part 1: 2011 where possible, including the introduction of a distinction between task area and surrounding areas, and the subsequent recommendation of uniformity for those areas. Uniformity carries significant weight throughout LG1, with recommended minimum values for each industry sector.
