other occupants, keeping them away from the situation. The suspect was safely arrested and taken into custody due to the swift actions of the officers.

HUMBERSIDE PC Daniel Boothby demonstrated exceptional bravery and dedication while responding to a concern for the safety of a vulnerable individual.

The incident began when partner agencies raised alarms about a woman who had been reported missing and potentially at risk. PC Boothby conducted an area search, eventually locating the woman’s unattended vehicle near Flamborough Lighthouse - a remote and often treacherous coastal area. Following a thorough search of the surrounding terrain, PC Boothby discovered the woman seated dangerously close to the edge of a cliff more than 100 metres high, facing out towards the sea. The ground leading up to the edge was slippery with wet grass and sloped downwards, posing serious risk to anyone approaching. Despite the precarious conditions, he began speaking calmly and patiently to the individual, who remained unresponsive and motionless for several minutes. His steady efforts to establish dialogue continued until the woman began removing items from her pockets and placing them beside her - an alarming sign. She then began to shift forward toward the cliff edge. Recognising the immediacy of the danger, PC Boothby made

a critical decision: he moved in quickly, grabbed the woman, and pulled her back from the edge to safety. He then ensured she received prompt medical attention. This courageous act, carried out in the final hour of a demanding 12-hour shift, undoubtedly saved a life.

KENT In May 2024, a member of the public contacted Kent Police in the early hours of the morning raising concerns for the welfare of a young lone female who they had witnessed walking into a derelict building. PC Tom Vinall was one of the first officers to arrive on scene, with the building being dark with no lighting and hazardous debris such as lumps of concrete all across the area. After a short time, he managed to observe the female sat on a ledge approximately five metres above him, with her legs hanging over the ledge.

PC Vinall immediately began to engage with the female.

The tone of his voice was calm, quiet and not panicked which led to the female feeling comfortable to engage with him but remained at risk of harm given her position. He was able to establish with the female as to how she had made her way to the high ledge and immediately made his way to join her, all the while trying to reassure her and giving her clear instructions of what he wanted her to do. Once he had joined the female on the ledge, he continued with clear and calm engagement, telling her at each stage what he was doing. Throughout this entire interaction, PC Vinall

maintained a rapport with the female who was visibly upset and in crisis, speaking about his own family to try and help put the female at ease. She was able to be transferred to the appropriate medical and mental health support.

LANCASHIRE A dedicated off-duty detective sprang out of bed to break up a fight on her street involving a man wielding a Taser. On 21 May 2023, the off-duty detective constable was at home in bed asleep, when she was awoken by the sound of a disturbance on the street outside. She rushed to look out of the window and saw two men fighting. The DC noticed the main aggressor was now holding a device in his hand, thought to be a Taser, which he pointed at the second male and fired. He fell onto the floor in a state of incapacitation. She rushed outside in her pyjamas and slippers taking only her mobile phone. As she ran outside, she could see both men continuing to fight. She grappled with the male armed with a Taser, trying to avoid punches from both men as they continued to try and fight each other. Due to the nature of the fight, she was struck several times either intentionally or unintentionally. Regardless, she was able to isolate the main aggressor, pinning him to the ground. Now, with some degree of control, she issued instruction for the other man to back away. Other members of the public were arriving to see what was going on. The DC gave clear guidance for them to call the police, identifying herself as a police officer requiring assistance. She handed over the detained male to her colleagues and secured the recovery of the Taser which had fallen onto the floor during her attempt to restrain the male.
