SUPPORTING PCSOs
acknowledgement. In addition to providing
community reassurance, PCSOs also support police officers in handling incidents, gathering intelligence, and assisting with crime prevention efforts. Their contribution has helped to reduce crime rates and strengthen public trust in law enforcement. The absence of recognition in the form of a long service medal not only undermines their efforts but also affects morale within the profession. Moreover, many PCSOs
dedicate their careers to community policing without seeking promotion to police officer roles. Their expertise, experience, and local knowledge provide continuity that is invaluable in modern policing. Recognising their contribution through a long service medal would acknowledge the sacrifices they make and the crucial role they play in community safety.
HOW TO SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN
The campaign is calling for public support to bring this issue to the government’s attention. A Government petition has been launched, allowing UK residents to show their support and help secure the recognition that PCSOs deserve. The petition has already gained traction, with thousands signing in support of the initiative. Many PCSOs and police officers have also voiced their approval, reinforcing the campaign’s message that fairness and recognition should extend to all who dedicate their lives to policing. Community members who benefit from the work of PCSOs are also encouraged to sign, acknowledging the impact these officers have had on their safety and well-being.

As public support continues to grow,
campaigners remain hopeful that the government will take action to address this issue. The introduction of a long service medal for PCSOs would be a small but significant step towards recognising their invaluable contributions to policing and community safety.
