RIGHT CARE RIGHT PERSON
Nationwide scheme rolled out by Wiltshire Police and its partner
agencies expanded as part of ongoing efforts to keep vulnerable people safe in emergency situations
The ‘Right Care Right Person’ initiative was introduced by the Government as a policy paper last April and it aims to make sure people are given the correct support from the most appropriate service when they need it. At the centre of the ‘RCRP’ approach is a threshold to assist the police in making decisions about when it is appropriate for officers to respond to incidents, including those which relate to people with mental health needs. The first phase of the ‘RCRP’ approach
began last April. It relates to calls made to Wiltshire Police about concerns for the welfare of those who may have walked out of a healthcare setting. It also covers

people who are absent without leave from NHS mental health services. The latest phase, which started last October, is now underway and it also
