WELLBEING

findings from national police wellbeing surveys, ensuring relevance and resonance with the target audience.

The reception of the series has been overwhelmingly positive. One officer shared, “This package has helped raise my awareness that other officers experience similar incidents and it has reassured me that I am not alone. I can’t put into words how helpful and useful this package was from a personal point of view.” Such testimonials underscore the series’

both their personal and professional identities, emphasising the importance of seeking support when needed.

Identity: Reflecting on a Career The trilogy culminates with “Identity,” which centres on Sarah, an officer approaching retirement. This instalment examines the profound connection between one’s profession and self-identity. As Sarah reflects on her decades of service, the film addresses themes of legacy, purpose, and the emotional complexities of transitioning to civilian life. “Identity” prompts seasoned officers to contemplate their journeys, the evolution of their identities, and the preparations necessary for life after policing. The series aims to address the unique mental health challenges faced by police officers and staff. Portraying relatable narratives, the films raise awareness of these challenges, fostering a culture where discussions about mental wellbeing are normalised. They also encourage self-reflection, prompting officers to examine their experiences, emotions, and the personal toll of their duties. Additionally, the series promotes open dialogue, serving as a catalyst for conversations within teams and encouraging mutual support among colleagues. To further support officers, each film is

accompanied by a mental health awareness package, providing valuable guidance, support strategies, and information on accessing professional help.

within the police force. Interviews with officers, psychologists, and experts ensured an authentic representation of the challenges faced in the field. The themes explored are also reflective of

effectiveness in reaching its audience and making a tangible difference. For the first time, all three films— ”Purpose,” “Meaning,” and “Identity”— are publicly available via the Oscar Kilo YouTube channel, ensuring wider accessibility for officers, staff, and their families. This move aims to extend the conversation beyond the confines of the force, recognising the integral role that families play in the wellbeing of officers. In addition to the film series, Oscar Kilo offers a

range of resources, including physical fitness videos, nutrition guidance, and sleep and fatigue management strategies, all designed to support the holistic well- being of police personnel.
