recognises the unnecessary burden of submitting full trial-ready files for pre- charge decision and asks for a legislative amendment to create an arrangement between the police service and the CPS for safe exchange of information, was discussed extensively on the floor of Parliament throughout this year. I am grateful to my colleagues across the country, especially our National Detectives’ Forum, who lobbied with MPs to put it on top of the Government’s policing agenda. While, currently, the Government remains non-committal, we will continue to push

for this urgent change as it will save police officers millions of hours and public funds in the long term. If the King’s Coronation was one of the

biggest policing operations undertaken in the history of our country, policing the protests and demonstrations during this year’s Remembrance Weekend was one which demanded highest levels of resilience. I am proud our colleagues ensured those participating in the events remained safe and upheld the law to the highest standards. POLICE PODCAST A sneak peek into the next episodes

December sees more additions to our podcast library for you to download and listen via your mobile, tablet or computer. We are building on the episodes available so that it includes updates from our National Board and National Council but also from some of our partner organisations who are working hard to support police officers on a daily basis. One such example of this would be our podcast recorded in partnership with MetFriendly. We recognise that it is an expensive time of the year, and many people also use the beginning of

the upcoming New Year to tighten up financial plans. Our podcast features something for everyone when it comes to making financial plans for the future. Throughout December, we will also be

hearing from PFEW CEO Mukund Krishna on his role and day to day responsibilities, and about his work in implementing improvement and change within PFEW. In his words, “the POLICE podcast is a helpful way of sharing our plans and vision for the future. It allows us to go into more detail and it’s a great way for our members to keep up to date with the work we are doing.”

You can listen and subscribe to the podcast via most podcasting platforms. Simply search for POLICE: The Podcast from the Police Federation of England and Wales.

day-out and cautioned politicians to keep policing free of politics and to respect operational independence which is a key pillar of UK policing. As we evolve to meet the changing demands and work hard towards making PFEW fit to support its members in any and every aspect, it’s vital we look after our wellbeing and that of family members. Please continue to support colleagues who are struggling, stay safe this festive season, and, on behalf of the National Board and the National Council, I wish you a happy and healthy 2024.
