HELP 4 ADDICTION

support. This brought about a merger between the Online Rehab arm of Help 4 Addiction and a Swedish app, Cairy, and together a new brand of support was launched as an app called ‘Rehubs’. The app ‘represents a new and pioneering approach to addiction recovery, tailored to the digital age’, which in real terms means that it is accessible 24/7, 365 days a year, which is a key asset when providing support to individuals in their darkest moments. Personal support can be provided via

the app using evidenced based programs that form the backbone to the methodology behind each case. Mr Conn understands from personal experience that addiction treatment must be met with compassion and lasting solutions that are

accessible when they are needed most. “This is especially important for the policing community whose shift patterns and working environments can vary so much. I know from personal experience that officers can find themselves in stressful and distressing situations on an almost daily basis. At times like these alcohol can seem like a good option, a coping mechanism that helps shed the stress of the day, but this can soon

spiral out of control, and even lead to substance abuse of a different kind. This is why it is so important that we partner with the Police Federation. Not only can the job of a cop place them in such triggering situations, unlike most employees, if a cop is struggling with addiction, they may feel they really have nowhere to turn. Especially if it involves an illegal substance. But cops need the same support as anyone else, if not more because of their work.”

The partnership of Rehubs with the PFEW is close to Mr Conn’s heart, a fact

“This is why it is so important that we

in supporting recovery is no flash in the pan and that it represents a now proven way of engaging with those in need of support. “Part of the success of online and app-based recovery is the community access that such platforms offer,” says Mr Conn. “Community support connects the person in recovery with individuals who share the same struggles, triumphs, and aspirations, all in real time. It offers a safe space in which users can openly discuss their journey, provide and receive encouragement, and find strength in shared experiences. This sense of

that is reflected in the offer of free access to all cops. If you are a serving officer reading this and want to learn more about free access there are details in the Members’ Bulletin for December. “My hope is that the app, Rehubs, offers the access and confidentiality that many cops I am sure need.”

With the success of Online Rehab under the Help 4 Addiction banner, Mr Conns is confident that the role of an app

belonging can be a powerful motivator, reminding the user that they are not alone in their battle against addiction. I am keen that people understand that an app provides

access to a much larger and far more empowering community than traditional therapy – the opportunity for connection and support is far greater,” adds Mr Conn. “And the science and research behind the app is every bit as serious and evidence based as traditional routes to recovery. The evidence- based approach combines the latest insights from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Positive Psychology, and Behavioural Neuroscience. And this can all be accessed at the users’ fingertips – a structured program that is a roadmap to recovery, providing a clear and progressive path. From personal assessments that identify unique needs to daily group sessions that foster community and shared growth, and one-on-one counselling that offers tailored guidance, every element of the program is designed to empower recovery.”
