HELP 4 ADDICTION

NEW APP AIMS TO HELP OFFICERS

STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION Help 4 Addiction has been working to assist addicts and all those

affected by addiction since 2015 when it was founded by Nicolas Conn, an ex-Metropolitan Police officer and former addict

The charity was founded by Mr Conn after his experience of addiction derailed what was supposed to be a good life. He attended Grammar school and soon after enrolled in the police to embark on what he had hoped would be a long and successful career as a cop. Things didn’t turn out as planned and Mr Conn found himself as a young cop with a serious cocaine addiction that had started while he was still at Hendon.

His struggle with drugs spiralled and was soon out of control, all while a serving police officer. And it was the job that added to the pressure and fed his insecurity, all of which he used cocaine to fight and hide from. He was putting the drug before his career and, at his darkest moments, he was putting the drug before the welfare of his colleagues. “I was a response driver and using not far off 8 grams a day,” says Mr Conn. “One day a call came over that a colleague had been attacked and I had to drop

everything – but I was doing a line of cocaine in the toilets. I ran and got in the car, lights on, but then realised I’d left my credit card, rolled-up note and line of coke on the toilet. So I had to turn the car round. I got back and grabbed all my stuff just as my sergeant was about to go into that cubicle.” But ultimately this is a story of redemption and hope. The addition sent Mr Conn down many dark paths that eventually saw him homeless in Berlin having run up a significant drug dept with Albanian gangsters. Mr Conn fled Berlin and returned to the UK to work in a security role at a nightclub and it was here he reached rock bottom, robbing someone who was having a fit, rather than providing the help and security that the individual needed. Such a dark moment brought Mr Conn back into the light and the rehab industry is all the better for it. Mr Conn used his experience as motivation to found Help 4 Addiction,

an industry leading addiction and rehab advisory service.

Mr Conn is now an established industry expert, frequently featured in national media, sharing his insights and expertise on addiction and recovery. His dedication to helping others overcome drug and alcohol abuse has been inspiring to many, offering hope to those who may have lost it and proving that recovery is not only possible but also a reality for those willing to seek help. This is the drive that has led to Help 4 Addiction becoming one of the UK’s foremost addiction advisory services. Of the services offered by Help 4 Addiction, the Online Rehab service, has been a runaway success, consistently achieving higher outcomes than residential rehab services for over two years. Always keen to explore new ways to support those with addiction, Mr Conn realised that the success of Online Rehab pointed to a new way of reaching and engaging with those most in need of
