CREATING LEGACIES. RISING TO THE CHALLENGE

Sue Pedro ’87 issued a bold challenge for #QUnited—Queens’ annual day of giving— on March 31. Pedro pledged to double her gift of $2,500 for student scholarships if Queens alumni from the 1980s would double their participation. Although participation numbers were just under the goal, the dollars raised tripled from 2020 numbers and, as a result, Pedro was inspired to fulfill her increased pledge.

THANK YOU, #QUNITED DONORS! DONORS PROVIDING LASTING SUPPORT

In 2021, Anne Cooper Schout established a fund through a bequest from her estate that will impact Queens for years to come. The Martha Petteway Cooper Professorship, in honor of Schout’s mother Martha Petteway Cooper ’37, will provide an endowed position to allow for growth at Queens, with preference given to faculty in a STEM-related field of study.

CELEBRATING FROM AFAR

Although the Class of 1971 couldn’t celebrate its 50th reunion in a typical manner during Reunion Weekend, they still marked the occasion in a memorable way. Together, fourteen members of the Class of 1971 gave $310,000 to support student scholarships and also challenged their classmates to donate. As a result, the Class of 1971 Scholarship and the Terry S. McGehee ’71 Scholarship were established to provide sustained annual support for students in need.
