UNJUST DESERTS
RACIST RAMPAGE MAN FINED AFTER TRASHING STAFFS TAXI WHEN DRIVER REFUSED A50 TRIP
A 53-year-old man, Andrew Dolan, has been slapped with a £1,152 court bill after he unleashed a racist tirade and violently damaged a taxi in Longton. North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard that Dolan and another man entered the taxi outside a pub around 11pm on 18 April. The court was told Dolan, who sat in the front, demanded to be taken to the A50 to meet his wife. However, the driver explained he needed a postcode and required the £25 fare upfront which made the defendant angry and aggressive. Dolan got out of the taxi and continued to shout through an open window. He kicked the taxi
twice causing dents to the door. The estimated cost of repair was £400. He then kicked the window causing it to shatter over the driver. It cost £150 to fix the window and the driver was left with a small cut. Police were called and arrested Dolan for criminal damage. During the journey to custody, Dolan reportedly used racist language, leading to an additional charge. Dolan, from Uttoxeter, admitted to criminal damage and racially- aggravated harassment, alarm, or distress. His defence lawyer, Joanne Corbett, argued that Dolan was “heavily intoxicated” and that his anxiety was heightened because
his wife was “stranded in traffic on the A50” and suffers from “extreme anxiety.” Corbett added: “He wanted to find her, to get her home and back to safety. He accepts he should not have said what he did and he should not have kicked the taxi.” Despite the mitigation, magis- trates imposed a compensation order of £550, a £369 fine, £85 in costs, and a £148 surcharge. Chairman of the bench Chris Rushton condemned Dolan’s actions, stating: “This was an awful escapade. Taxi drivers do not deserve to be treated like that. In a way they are a public servant. They are doing their job.”
12-MONTH COMMUNITY ORDER FOR VILE RACIAL ABUSE OF CHORLEY CABBIE
A Bolton man who subjected a Chorley taxi driver to a vile racist rant has been handed a 12-month community order. The man, in his 50s, pleaded guilty at a pre-trial hearing on December 11, 2024, to racially/religiously aggravated intentional harass- ment/alarm following the incident on May 12, 2024. The court heard that the taxi driver picked up Fell and another male passenger from a Chorley taxi rank at approximately 1:30am. Initially requesting a journey to Houghton, the passengers then changed their destination to Bolton mid-journey. Upon arrival in Bolton, the £75 fare became the catalyst for a torrent of abuse directed at the driver.

According to court documents, Fell, who was seated in the back of the taxi, launched into a tirade that included deeply offensive and Islamophobic remarks such as: “Go to your hajj. Go and pray to your f***ing god,” and “Your a f***ing rag head, you horrible bas***d.” He also made disturbing com- ments about the driver’s faith and perceived background, stating: “F***ing
temples everywhere,
breeding us out,” and “Your a f***ing Muslim and you want to do hajj, and you want to f***ing rag me like the rest of your caste because your breeding us out of this f***ing country.” Despite being repeatedly warned by the driver that his racist abuse
was being recorded on the taxi’s CCTV and would be reported to the police, the man continued his verbal assault and refused to pay the fare, declaring: “I am not paying you £75, I would rather slit my own throat and do hajj.” The entire journey was captured on the taxi’s recording system, and the footage was provided to Lancashire Police as crucial evidence, leading to the man’s arrest and subsequent charge. He was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on April 17, 2025. The 12-month community order mandates that he attend a programme of 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days and pay a £100 fine.
