DRUGS IN CABS
COVENTRY PHV STOP LEADS TO 1KG HEROIN BUST WITH DEALER JAILED FOR 42 MONTHS
A drug dealer has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being caught with £23,000 worth of heroin in a PHV last November, West Midlands Police has confirmed. Keren Kumar, 32, of no fixed address, was a passenger in a Toyota Prius stopped on Jimmy Hill Way on 4 November. Police discovered a small quantity of heroin concealed in Kumar’s sock during a roadside search.
A subsequent search uncovered a signifi- cantly larger stash. “Inside an Asda bag where he’d been sit- ting in the taxi was a bag containing 1kg of heroin, with an estimated value of £23,000,” stated a police spokesperson. Despite initially denying know- ledge of the drugs, Kumar later pleaded guilty to possession of
heroin with intent to supply at Birmingham Crown Court on 25 April.
The investigation was part of Operation Target, the force’s ongoing initiative to combat serious and organised crime. Police emphasised their com- mitment to “disrupting, arresting and bringing to justice those involved in guns, drugs, money laundering and exploitation across the region.”
MAN JAILED FOR 10 YEARS AFTER LOADED HANDGUN AND DRUGS FOUND IN LEICESTER POLICE STOP
A 22-year-old Birmingham man has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after police discovered a loaded handgun and drugs during a traffic stop outside a B&Q store in Leicester. Tyo Carter was a passenger in a PHV when officers pulled it over last August. Following the stop, a search of a bag at Carter’s feet revealed the
firearm, while a search of Carter found cocaine and cannabis. Forensic analysis linked Carter to the weapon, and his mobile phone contained evidence dealing.

in the garden of a house. Following a subsequent search of a property in Walton large bags of cannabis, scales and a vacuum sealed bag were recovered. Two men aged 51 and 35 were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug Class B (cannabis). Both have been released under investigation.
Carter pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, possession of am- munition, and possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs on the day of his trial at Leicester Crown Court in February. Passing down the sentence, Recorder Blakey delivered a stark warning: “A message has to go out to those, like you, who attempt to get into that life for a quick turn of money, that it isn’t worth it because you will go to prison. “Unfortunately for you that is what is going to happen to you today.” The judge emphasised the severity of the crime due to the loaded weapon, stating: “Your offending was compounded by the fact you were found to have a loaded weapon, with a bullet in the chamber. That weapon, in other hands, created a serious risk of violence or death if used by others. Why else would anybody want a weapon like that, plus bullets? That exacerbates your situation.”
