morning. Basingstoke was soaked in golden sunshine, with not a cloud in the azure Hampshire skies. The sun glinted on the roof of my car. I slipped on my shades and trilby and headed into Memorial Park on my latest mission to make one Basingstoke cab- bie very happy indeed. The mercury was ris- ing but this was no time for sunbathing. Festival Place was my next target, a mecca for shoppers and sure- ly, a magnet
BASINGSTOKE CABBIE MADE UP WITH HIS £1,000 TIP
for
cabbies. The town centre was bustling. Full of people enjoying the good weather but not a cab in sight. I was starting to sweat. Where could he be? I dashed from road to road, under the
underpass and there, by The Anvil, I saw her. Blonde hair, mysteri- ous smile, unmis- takable trilby… my sticker. I ran up and caught the cab, with just seconds to spare. I sighed with relief. The cabbie, a lovely chap called Stephen Muir- head, was under- standably thrilled with his £1,000 tip. “I thought you had the wrong person at first, I didn’t believe it! I’m ecstatic!”
So yet again,
I’ve
made another cabbie £1,000 richer. Check out the photos from the day on Facebook- simply search for my Mystery Tipper fan page and click the ‘like’ button.

UK BASED TAXI DRIVER RECRUITMENT AGENCY EXPANDS
Due to the success of orders taken at the PHM show in Coven- try,
based
taxidrivers.co.uk (the only UK based taxi driver

www.eu-
recruitment
agency) is expanding. Darren Green, UK Sales Manager, adds: ‘We are having to add extra training courses in Romania and also here in Loughborough to cope with demand, from our appearance at the show. We have had to recruit an additional member to our sales team. Part of our success has been, unlike our rivals in Prague, we are able to visit each taxi com- pany and so we can work hand in hand. This means we are able to train and sup- ply drivers tailored to
a company’s needs, rather than just sup- plying any driver who wants to work in the UK. We have also been complimented on our after sales serv- ice. The agency is now running weekly cours- es from its offices in Romania, training hard working drivers to come to the UK, as well training at its cen- tre in Loughborough. Darren says: “The benefit to having a self
employed Romanian driver is that they work longer hours as they have no social or fam- ily commitments in the UK; they even pay their own training fees, so the taxi company basically isn’t left hold- ing the tab.”
