SHAME!! MIDDLESBROUGH DRIVER JAILED FOR RAPE OF 16-YEAR-OLD PASSENGER

A taxi driver has been jailed for seven years for raping a teenage passenger after driv- ing her to a secluded spot as she dozed off drunk in his car. According to the Northern Echo, Liaqat Ali was told by a judge at Teesside Crown Court that he will also be banned from being a taxi driver under a lifetime sexual of- fences

from Middles- prevention

order. As reported in PHTM last month, married Ali,

brough, denied the attack during a trial and claimed the 16- year-old had forced herself upon him.

A jury of six men and six women rejected his account and believed the girl, who said Ali had made her perform oral sex on him in the front of his cab before driving her to her home, where she told her mother what had happened. When he was first interviewed by police after his arrest, Ali accepted he had picked up the teenag- er

but denied

anything had hap- pened. A DNA test later linked him to the allegation, and he admitted he had ini- tially lied, but said his passenger had initiat- ed the sexual contact.

Giving evidence

through an interpreter, Ali said the girl was lying about the rape and she

told the started

touching him and sex- ually assaulted him. Ali’s barrister, Paul Abrahams,

court that the father-of- four is still protesting his innocence and refuses to accept the jury’s verdict. Mr Abrahams des- cribed Ali as a caring family man and said his

imprisonment

would have a huge impact on his family. Judge George Moor- house also ordered Pakistan-born Ali to sign on the sex offend- ers’ register for life.

A taxi driver stole £270 from a blind woman passenger after she had asked him to stop at a cashpoint. Shafak Hussain, 36, was convicted after a trial at Manchester Magistrates’ Court and is now facing prison. The court bailed him for reports saying: “We have no doubt that you committed the offence.” Miss Holly Holden, prosecuting, said Hus- sain had picked up the 51-year-old woman from hospital and on

stopping at a cash till she said she wanted to withdraw £30. Hussain accompanied her and at one stage asked for her pin num- ber but she refused. It was said he keyed in £300 and on returning to the taxi gave her £30 along with her card - and kept the rest. The fare was £14 and the woman gave him £20 and told him to take a £4 tip, the court heard. The woman became suspicious after he kept asking her about

her account. On ring- ing the bank the next day she discovered £300 had been with- drawn. Hussain claimed the woman had said she wanted £300. He said he gave her the cash and saw her counting it
