LUCKY WIRRAL CABBIE WINS £50,000 ON PEOPLE’S POSTCODE LOTTERY

A Wirral taxi driver’s new year got off to an amazing start after he won a share of £200,000 thanks to his postcode. The Liverpool Echo reports that Stephen Lamb, 63, along with three of his neigh- bours, landed a cheque for £50,000 each when CH62 9AX was announced as a winner with People’s Postcode Lottery on Thursday 7 January. Stephen said he was “very close to tears” after he found out how much he had won over a video call with People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt.

He said: “I’m absolutely gobsmacked, I

really am. My knees are knocking. My wife Karen will be through the roof when I tell her – she’ll be dancing! “I mainly do airport transfers so my

work rate has gone from very good to zero so I’ve hardly worked since last March. Obviously, no one is going away at the minute either so I don’t foresee it picking up. “I’d have been thrilled to bits with £1,000 but to open the envelope with £50,000 is just staggering. All of a sud- den there’s a light at the tunnel and it’s a golden light. I’m so pleased for the neighbours too.” Stephen said he planned to spend the windfall on a new kitchen and a “nice holiday” to somewhere like the Domini- can Republic next year.

GREENOCK TAXI DRIVER BEATS DIABETES AFTER LOSING SEVEN STONE

An inspirational Greenock taxi driver is celebrating a new lease of life as he beat diabetes after losing seven stones. The Greenock Telegraph reports that Robert Hotchkiss has battled with his weight for years and finally found the diet he was looking for thanks to Slim- ming World. During the Covid-19 pandemic he started to walk, clocking up to 45 miles a week and started to feel the positive impact on his health. Now all his hard work has paid off as he has been discharged from the diabetes

clinic after slimming down. Robert, 60, said: “I just really hope I can inspire others to change their lives. I guess with sitting in a taxi, the weight just crept up. Eventually I was diag- nosed with diabetes. “I think the final straw was on holiday when I couldn’t move anywhere in the heat. I just thought to myself there and then ‘enough is enough’.” Seven years ago Robert weighed almost 26 stone. He was wearing clothes 5x extra large and his bulk was taking a big toll on his health. The taxi driver was then diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He joined Slimming World along with his wife Janette, 61, four years ago and together they started to lose the pounds. When the pandemic hit Robert used the hours he wasn’t working to walk an hour a day and then over the summer he stepped it up. He now tries to get in at least eight kilometres a day and goes for longer walks at the weekend. In November all Robert’s work paid off when he was told he no longer needed to attend the diabetic clinic.

He said: “I was jumping for joy when they told me. I just hope I can show folk that you can beat diabetes, it doesn’t have to be something you live with for the rest of your life.” The super slimmer has gone from a chest 58-60 to 40-42. He added: “As well as Slimming World, the walking has helped so much. I love getting out and exercising. I have dips and put weight on, but I keep going.” Slimming World consultant Michelle Collins says she is so proud of Robert and the journey he has made.
