Windsor Waste Management achieves FORS Silver Accreditation

WINDSOR Waste Management is proud to have achieved Silver accreditation from the Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS).

The aim of the scheme is to raise the level of quality in fleet operations and to demonstrate and set apart those operators which achieve exemplary levels of best practice in safety, efficiency and environmental best practice.

Having successfully maintained Bronze accreditation for nearly seven years, and with their commitment to continuous improvement, it was important for Windsor Waste Management to continue to raise standards in the safety and environmental efficiency of their operations and attain Silver accreditation.

To achieve the FORS Silver Accreditation, Windsor Waste Management had to demonstrate that they could deliver their fleet operations to a high standard in a number of areas, including vehicle safety and maintenance, environmental performance and driver training and communication. This has involved implementing a number of changes

to processes and procedures to ensure they are able to more closely measure and monitor performance particularly in relation to fuel use and emissions.

As part of their ongoing programme to improve the safety of their fleet and as a requirement of the silver standard, their waste collection vehicles are fitted with four-way CCTV camera technology and all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are fitted with left-turn audible warning systems - a system which helps to increase cyclist and pedestrian safety.

Another important aspect of the FORS Silver accreditation is ongoing training and communication and, as part of their commitment to continuous professional development, all drivers have undergone a series of practical and classroom based training courses including Cycle Safety, Safe Urban Driving and Counter Terrorism.

Group Operations Manager Wayne Londors, also acting as Road Risk, Fuel and Noise Champion within the business, commented: “It’s been an exciting process of review to develop and improve systems. This not only helps us

improve our own performance, but has environmental benefits and has safety in mind too. We’re keen to build upon the improvements for the benefit of the people that work for us and anyone that is impacted by the service we provide.”
