WASTE RECYCLING

Tidy Planet celebrates 5-year composting partnership with UK students’ union

THIS year, The Guild – the University of Liverpool’s students’ union (SU) – celebrates half a decade of composting food waste from its campus kitchens.

The campus’ composting journey began in January 2015, when it invested in dewatering and composting equipment from Macclesfield organic waste solutions specialist Tidy Planet. It sought a solution to close the waste management loop, omit costly waste disposal fees and create a valuable resource to grow produce in the on-site rooftop gardens and cultivation plots.

The composter is able to process up to three quarters of a tonne (750kgs) of food waste per week. The site’s sustainable waste management efforts also saw the organisation shortlisted for the prestigious Green Gown Awards in 2018.

Commenting on the achievement, Green Guild manager David Wheatley said: “We’re extremely committed to adopting and promoting sustainable practices here

Molson expand their attachment range with Genesis

BRISTOL-based plant and equipment dealer Molson Group has been appointed as the sole UK distributor by Genesis GmbH for their offering of attachments for the demolition, scrap and recycling industries.

Genesis manufacture a comprehensive portfolio of attachments including shear attachments for excavators and materials handlers. Their products have an excellent reputation for unrivalled cutting force and durable build quality. The Genesis line-up ranges from the 620Kg GVP 07 shear to the range-topping 25t GXT 2555R, which has a closing force of more than 30.400 kN.

Since their appointment in 2004 as a dealer for NPK, attachments have been a key part of the Molson Group product range. Following the acquisition of Genesis Attachments, LLC by NPK Construction Equipment Inc. in May 2019,

the appointment of a proven dealer of NPK products like Molson was a natural progression for Genesis.

As well as offering the full range of new Genesis attachments, Molson Group will also offer parts and service for existing users of Genesis attachment customers. The range of attachments will be available from Molson Equipment in England and Wales, whilst Molson Young Plant Sales will represent the brand in Scotland.

Jonathan Wilson, joint Managing Director of Molson Group, commented: “Genesis attachments are renowned for their strength and durability. The broad range of attachments offered by Genesis for end- users requiring robust and hard-wearing scrap shears naturally complements the equipment already on offer from Molson. Furthermore, this solidifies our position as a single source supply option to the demolition and recycling sectors".

at The Guild, and boosting our green credentials is always high on the agenda.”

To compost effectively – ensuring no waste contamination – The Guild has separate food waste caddies located in the campus kitchens. The content is then emptied into the dewatering equipment by kitchen staff – where

moisture content and weight are reduced – before the resulting feedstock is fed into the composter to create a nutrient-rich resource, in 14 days.

The gardens are run by student volunteers, who use the areas to grow organic produce – which is then freely available for students and staff to consume.
