wilted Swiss chard, served with a delicately spiced jus and a creamy moreish dhal. Next up was the

‘textures of yoghurt’ palate cleanser – a crisp shard of tangy meringue atop a perfect sphere of frozen yoghurt – followed by cardamon chai crème brûlée with custard – a delicious fusion finale to a glorious meal.

Pan-Indian flavours take centre stage at this sophisticated Mayfair spot

What’s it like? Located in the heart of Mayfair, Kanishka offers a refined and memorable dining experience, with acclaimed chef Atul Kochhar blending Indian culinary traditions with a modern British twist. As you step inside, the restaurant sets a tone of luxury and sophistication, with twinkling mirrored walls and modern portraits. The ambiance is equally inviting and intimate, perfect for both special occasions and relaxed evenings out.

Food and drink The experience began with Kanishka’s signature cocktail – the fruity and subtly spiced Tandoori pineapple rum punch – preparing my tastebuds for the seven-course tasting menu. Traditionally you might

pair Indian food with a chilled Riesling or fresh Chardonnay, but I was encouraged to try mango wine from the Rhythm Winery in India. I was dubious at first, but what a discovery! It has a perfect balance

of sweetness and acidity that will offset bold savoury flavours as well as complement delicate sweet spices. As the tasting menu

progresses, each course builds on the last, with increasing complexity and depth of flavour. Dishes ranged from Jal Tarang, a dish of tender plump scallops with chicken jus, hazelnuts and crispy chicken skin, to chicken tikka pie – the ultimate union of east meets west. The final main course, Do Tarike ka Gosht, featured perfectly cooked lamb chop and lamb loin with

Service The knowledgeable staff guided us through each course, explaining the origin and inspiration behind the dishes. Each course was carefully portioned, ensuring that you could fully appreciate the diversity of the menu without feeling overwhelmed. Would I go again? Yes,

and I won’t be waiting for a special occasion.

just a meal; it’s an

exploration of a lesser- known side of Indian cuisine, paired with exceptional service.
