T R AV E L N E W S First class updates

Loyal travellers benefit as Lufthansa launches private suites that will initially be invitation-only

LUFTHANSA HAS launched its long-awaited Allegris first class suites, initially operating on flights to Bengaluru and Mumbai. The carrier had

intended to introduce the product alongside its new business, premium economy and economy seating, which launched in May, but delays led to the first Allegris-fitted A350 aircraft entering service without a first class cabin. The first class cabin

CHF100 (£87) to CHF1,000 (£887). But it’s not all work, there’s

plenty of winter treats for visitors to enjoy. Hit the ski slopes at Jakobshorn and Parsenn, ring in New Year’s Day with the Hotschrennen pig race in neighbouring Klosters, or watch ice hockey at the 96th edition of the Spengler Cup – the oldest international tournament of its kind (26-31 December). Music enthusiasts, meanwhile, can head to the Songbird Festival Davos – a celebration of national singer- songwriters, taking place from 6-21 December. In hotel news, the Hotel Flüela Davos joined Hyatt’s The Unbound Collection in December 2023. Situated 1,560 metres above sea level, and a three-minute stroll from Parsenn Ski Lift, the hotel features 51 sumptuous rooms, a private ski locker, plus an expansive spa to restore sore muscles. Hotel Grischa, meanwhile, boasts fine dining fare – from the Mediterranean-inspired Apollo, to upscale Chinese cuisine at the Golden Dragon restaurant.

12 BUSINESS TRAVELLER

DID YOU KNOW? Davos is the first Swiss resort with a net-zero target, aiming to reach the milestone by 2030

features just two individual suites and a “globally unique” Suite Plus, with two seats that convert into a double bed, plus features including near- ceiling-high walls and a lockable sliding door. To begin with, the

suites are being offered by invitation-only to its “most loyal guests”, with targeted upgrades and then bookings being made available as more aircraft with Allegris First

Class enter service. Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines has announced plans for an all-new first class cabin on its fleet of A350-900 Ultra Long Range (ULR) aircraft, as part of a wider S$1.1 billion retrofit programme. The carrier’s seven A350-

900 ULRs will have four first class seats, with the first retrofitted aircraft to enter service in 2027.

Allegris seats are almost one metre wide and can be heated or cooled
