Hinna Vayani, CILIP’s Associate Project Manager said: “Green Libraries Week is an annual week- long celebration of the nation’s much-loved libraries which aims to increase awareness of what libraries offer, drive engagement and encourage repeat use. This can involve highlighting successful green library initiatives, providing access to educational materials, and connecting libraries with relevant organisations and networks. “We want to acknowledge and publicly share the accomplishments of libraries already taking steps towards sustainabil-

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, with the week designed to be as open as possible – encouraging library ser- vices to choose how they take part. CILIP has produced free resources to help inspire and promote events running through the week. Libraries are being encouraged to plan their own events, and organisers have suggested some ideas to help get you started – from recycling mornings and energy advice clinics to a full-on eco festival and author events. Services are also advised to approach local partners to see what oppor- tunities there are for collaboration. Hinna said: “Consider ways to incorporate sustainable thinking within your messag- es to your networks, members, students and library users. Everyone is geared in some way to do better and taking green action in this week can help plant a seed of inspiration to those who need a little nudge.
