The value of FEDIP membership F
EDIP is the Federation for Informatics
Professionals in Health and Social Care, and a new initiative is helping
CILIP members get more out of it. The federation – which includes CILIP, British Computer Society (BCS), Institute of Heath Records and Information Management (IHRIM), and Society for Innovation, Technology, and Modernisation (Socitm), works to establish professional standards, maintain a register of practitioners and thereby provide greater confi dence to employers, colleagues, and wider society.
Professionalism It provides added value to CILIP membership by positioning health knowledge and library specialists within the wider family of healthcare informatics professionals. Membership of FEDIP provides greater awareness of how the wider health informatics profession is making use of new and developing technologies to benefi t healthcare and opens new opportunities for partnerships and collaboration.
As a member, I use the FEDIP Leading Practitioner logo in my email signature, together with the appropriate post-nominals, alongside my CILIP credentials. This provides colleagues and partners with immediate evidence of my commitment and professionalism in both the knowledge and library, and wider health informatics professions.
Resources
Another useful member benefi t is the FEDIP Hub, a learning management system holding a catalogue of resources for health and care informatics professionals, including past webinars and accredited CPD resources. The system logs time spent on CPD providing a useful record for revalidation or professional registration.
54 INFORMATION PROFESSIONAL
Membership of FEDIP helps to demonstrate a personal commitment to delivering the best health and care services through improving and advocating for health informatics services. We work in a sector where professionalism is key. Our fellow healthcare professionals are members of professional bodies within their own sectors, each with its own standards and revalidation requirements. Membership of our own professional body, CILIP, helps to evidence to other healthcare professionals that we are health professionals in our own right, working to our own professional standards, with peer recognition embodied in a rigorous professional registration and revalidation process.
FEDIP Membership Levels Registration with FEDIP is open to anyone practising anywhere within the health and care informatics spectrum: from library assistants and paraprofessionals to senior knowledge and library managers. If you improve delivery of health and care services through knowledge and information, you can become a FEDIP Registered practitioner.
There are various levels of FEDIP registration which have been mapped to CILIP professional registration levels for ease of application.
Chartered members may use their professional judgement to decide the appropriate level of FEDIP registration (Senior or Advanced) using the criteria provided by FEDIP.
