than develop its own design, the Russian Navy’s Shipbuilding Technical Committee decided to use these drawings without any changes and promptly contracted for the construction of ten near-clones of the Passaic class, the fi rst of which was Uragan. (Figure 2) T e best single reference for information about these monitors is Stephen McLaughlin’s article in Warship 2012, but one should be careful using the drawings, especially the elevation and upper deck plan, because they sometime confl ate features present at diff erent times during these warships’ quite lengthy careers.
Building the model
I have once again become very enthusiastic about paper modeling as a medium for creating replicas of iron or steel warships. It is not always an easy medium with which to work but it also is amazingly fl exible.
