Happy New Year! Dear CVUSD family,
I hope you had a restful winter break and are back to work and school with a renewed sense of optimism. While we are still battling the COVID-19 pandemic together, multiple vaccines are being made available in California?
s Phase 1a to our Dr. Norm Enfield
Superintendent of Schools DrNormEnfield
healthcare workers. CA Governor Newsom announced last week that educational essential workers are in the Phase 1b
group for vaccine eligibility. I hope you all consider the importance of vaccinating yourselves when your turn comes along and meanwhile continue to practice healthy habits such as washing hands frequently, wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing and staying home when ill. The more we protect ourselves and each other from the virus, the sooner we can return to our normal lives.
CONQUISTADORES SCORE BIG AT THE 2020 HERITAGE CUP!
Don Lugo HS students participating in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program conquered the opposition at the annual Heritage Cup Field Day competition hosted by the Menifee - Heritage FFA Chapter.
The Conquistador Veggie Crop team, led by advisor Alyssa Berry, placed third in the overall team competition with Erynne Jones (C/O 2021) earning fourth place in the individual event. Joining Erynne for the team event were senior Mia Reynoso and sophmore Emma Hasson. Although the Heritage Cup is the first event the team has participated in this year, Ms. Berry
stated each student did a magnificent job competing virtually.
The Floricultural team, under the direction of advisor Barbara Tuyen, outscored teams from Escondido, Buena Park and Fallbrook to bring home first place in the floral judging event! Scoring an impressive overall score of 1442, the Conquistadores had a commanding lead over the competition with the second place team from Escondido finishing with 1216. During the individual event, Nathalie Martinez-Escajeda secured third place with Arianna Hernandez, Sophia Vazquez and Gloria Camacho earning fourth, ninth and tenth place finishes.
Congratulations to all the hard working students and administrators who make the Don Lugo High School Agricultural program a huge success!
