Our students' hard work and dedicat ion is matched by the commi tment of their teachers. I t is a posi t ive reflect ion on our
teachers and staff that year after year our students matr iculate to col leges and universi t ies; begin their trade careers having benefi ted from our Pathways programs; and receive academic and
extracur r icular honors on state and nat ional levels.
Ask any of our teachers or staff and I know they wi l l echo me when I say that central to our School Distr ict 's success story is our phi losophy that students always come first . Our emphasis on Posi t ive Behavioral Intervent ion Systems means that our schools and classrooms are posi t ive learning environments. I am proud to say that 25 of our schools recent ly received State recogni t ion in this area, for their excel lent work ensur ing al l students can develop the social , emot ional and academic ski l ls to learn and thr ive.
As super intendent , I make i t my pr ior i ty to enable our students to thr ive in an atmosphere that is safe and secure. This past spr ing, al l of our 35 schools updated their Safe Schools Plans, which include everything from safety on campus and school cr ime prevent ion to posi t ive cul ture and cl imate. This school year , our campuses began using the Raptor system, which runs background checks of al l school visi tors against a nat ional database of registered sex offenders. Addi t ional ly, emergency dr i l ls and training for both students and staff wi l l cont inue to take place Distr ict wide.
Measure G bond funds al low us to move on steadi ly wi th our school safety and modernizat ion upgrades. These upgrades include transi t ioning our schools to ut i l ize keyless access to secure our campuses; and, this year , Phase 0 groundbreaking of the new Chino High School .
As you can see, we have much work to do to maintain our Distr ict 's tradi t ion of excel lence that spans more than 150 years. I look forward to working wi th al l of you to ensur ing a product ive and rewarding school year for our students.
