Ayala students spend sumer at prestigious Kaiser Perm
anente internship m
While many students were spending their summer break vacationing or relaxing, five Ayala High School?
s students
were hard at work at the Kaiser Permanente Summer Youth Employment Program. Andrew Hoover, Swati Bhalla, Samantha Martinez, Megan Broad, and Ismael Sindha (pictured left to right above) were chosen to participate in the prestigious,
highly competitive, paid internship at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. All five students want to pursue a career in the medical field, and this summer they had the opportunity to work with Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Laboratory Assistants and Field Engineers among many other medical professionals.
?The Kaiser internship allowed me to be exposed to a different side of the medical field
-- clinical lab science. I worked in the Molecular Microbiology lab where suspected bacterial and viral infection samples are tested,? said Megan Broad. ?I have gained so much perspective for what I am looking for in a career in the medical field. The experience has really impacted my future and I am grateful for all my mentors who helped me along the way. I am thankful that I was able to intern at the Kaiser Regional Reference Lab this past
summer.?
Swati Bhalla and Andrew Hoover learned leadership skills and public speaking while working in the CORE lab. Samantha Martinez worked in the Environmental Health & Safety Department and learned how chemicals being used in medical labs could affect the environment. Ismael Sindha enjoyed being able to work in the Bacteriology Department.
