Canyon Hills Team members are eighth-graders Jaytin Sampat, Lyle Tiu, Jonny Zhao, Braylon Ervin, Ruben Barbero, and Brian Winn. Their coaches are parents Michelle Sampat and Sujal Sampat.

Chino Valley Unified School District will be well represented at the 2018 World Finals of the Odyssey

of the Mind competition to be held May 23-26 in Iowa. A team from Canyon Hills Junior High School and a student from Rolling Ridge Elementary School have qualified for the world event based on their scores at the recent California Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament.

The team?s creative challenge was ?Emoji, Speak for Yourself,? in which they had to create a

three-dimensional emoji and present a performance around that without any spoken language. They told the story of the ?Little Prince,? using a rose symbolizing love as his emoji. As the Little Prince grows he becomes corrupted by the world, but eventually regains his values. The students created a nearly 5-foot-tall cell phone that narrates their performance with text messages.
