Hi everybody. I don’t know if you know but this week is stuttering awareness week which is why I am doing this post. Have you ever met a person with a stutter? Well if you have seen my videos then you have met someone with a stutter. Me. Well, virtually. I have a stutter and I am proud of it. A stutter is when you pause, stretch, or block on a sound. Kinda like this: “Mmmmy nname is AAAdele.” What I am doing in this post is advertising. That is when I tell people about my stutter, one of the many strategies I use. Another strategy is cancellations. A cancellation is when I’m stuttering, then I pause, and start over with a fake stutter to get me going. The strategy I use the most is free talking. As you can imagine it’s just like the name, I just talk without using any strategies; free talking.

Even though it might seem at first like stuttering is a weird or wrong thing, it’s not. As a person with a stutter I can say, it’s not. Here are 3 things to do when you meet a person with a stutter:

1. Keep listening to what they have to say; don’t mention it until they are finished. 2. Ask if they are comfortable talking about it. If not, don’t bring it up again. 3. Make sure they know you think they are a normal person, not a weird or different person.

For everyone who stutters out there this is for you, even though you are different you be YOU. Everyone should understand that you are you and that they need to respect that. If people tell you to change tell them you can’t; this is YOU.
