Bachelor of Arts Subject Groups - First Year
Subjects are organised into timetable groups. The subjects in a group are scheduled at the same time, so you may not choose more than one subject from any group. The following table shows the timetable groups. You can take any combination, as long as there is no timetable clash.
Note 1. Subjects available as ‘double subjects’ (30 credits) are marked with . These subjects need extra class times, normally scheduled in Groups 6 or 7.
2. German and Spanish require a 30 credit first year for beginners in the language (marked with ○). You must take this 30 credit option if you are a beginner in German or Spanish. If you have studied these languages before to H5 standard or better, you take the 15 credit option.
3. Critical Skills courses can be taken in any timetable group.
4. The following subjects have minimum entry requirements that you must meet if you wish to take that subject: French H5, non-beginner German H5, Mathematics (Pure) H2, Music H5, Nua-Ghaeilge H5 and non-beginner Spanish H5.
5. In the case of these subjects we recommend that students have achieved the following Leaving Certificate grades: Accounting, 3 Business subjects, Economics, Finance O4/H7 Mathematics, Computer Science and Mathematical Studies O3/H7 Mathematics.
