In 2018, Maynooth University turns 21 years old – and 223 years old. How?
Maynooth University is simultaneously Ireland’s youngest university and one of its oldest educational institutions.
With the Universities Act of 1997, the National University of Ireland and the college at Maynooth became the National University of Ireland, Maynooth (Maynooth University), a university in its own right, independent of St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, which was founded as the Royal College of St. Patrick in 1795.
Being young and old has its advantages – a long history of scholarly tradition and a youthful dynamism that allows us to push boundaries and adapt for the future.
