>The Electronic Engineering degree is accredited by the Institute of Engineers of Ireland (IEI) and is recognised internationally. Graduates of the BE (hons) degree are eligible for membership of the Institute. Honours graduates are also eligible for associate membership of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (AMIEE) in the UK and membership of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (MIEEE) in the USA.
>For each of the degree pathways in Engineering i.e. Computer Engineering (COE), Electronic Engineering (EEG), Communications Engineering (COM) or Open Choice (OPC), students take the same modules in first, second and third year.
>In 4th year students specialise in one of the three available options, completing their degree with a BE honours. Students with a minimum of 2:2 grade (50%) in third year have the option of completing a further two years to graduate with an ME in Electronic Engineering.

By bringing this deep knowledge to all the undergraduate programmes, we provide our graduates with a world-class electronic engineering education but also a head start in these exciting and important areas.
>All students complete a 6 month work experience module in 3rd year (subject to availability). A Design Exercise module is also available, providing students with in-house research experience should a work placement not be attained.
Options after graduation? Our graduates are equipped to work in silicon chip manufacturing and design (e.g. Intel), communications companies and in the development of products closely combining hardware and software.
Students now have the opportunity to graduate after 5 years with an ME in Electronic Engineering (master’s level). This degree will exempt holders from any further written examination on the path to qualify as a Chartered Engineer. Beyond electronic engineering, our graduates have the software skills to work in most software companies, and the problem solving and mathematical skills for many roles in the financial and management sectors.

*Note: Applicants who do not achieve the required H4 in their Leaving Certificate 2018 Mathematics exam can sit the Engineering Mathematics Examination held in late August. The exam is based on Paper 1 of the Leaving Certificate curriculum. Applicants must achieve at least H4 grade in this exam, along with the other entry requirements, in order to be accepted on to our Electronic Engineering degree (MH304). Applicants under 23 years of age need to have attained at least 300 points in their Leaving Certificate or equivalent plus basic entry requirements.

Course structure 1st year
For each of the degree pathways in Engineering (COE, EEG, COM or OPC) students take the same modules in first, second and third year
2nd year
Optional 10 credit Electives (see p. 8 for details)
3rd year
3rd year students complete 10 taught modules (5 credits each) over semester 1 & 2, and a community- based PBL (Project Based Learning) module (10 credits) in semester 2
Students have two progression routes out of the programme to qualification, depending on their grade average in third year
Final year
In fourth year students specialise in one of the following three options, completing their degree with a BE honours: > Electronic Engineering with Computers (COE)
> Electronic Engineering (EEG) > Electronic Engineering with Communications (COM)
OR Students with a minimum of 2:2 grade (50%) in 3rd year may complete a further 2 years to graduate with an ME in Electronic Engineering
Industrial work experience is available to students in the 4th year of the 5 year Masters. Students may alternatively choose Erasmus, Study Abroad or a Research Internship (subject to availability)
