What makes ORBCOMM different than other providers of telematics solutions?
Our breadth of capabilities and depth of experience. Our solutions cover every aspect of fleet management, from driver behavior to the security and integrity of the cargo. We support every kind of asset in today’s fleets, and we know how to integrate solutions into a variety of third-party systems in order to accommodate complex supply chains. We’ve built custom solutions to meet the specific needs of some of the largest companies in the industry.
Our innovation in transportation is also fueled by our expertise in other industries. ORBCOMM is a leader in telematics for the heavy equipment industry, in RFID-based supply chain management, in maritime and natural resources telematics.
What makes up a complete IoT telematics solution? Hardware, network connectivity and data. We offer all three. Our hardware is designed and built with the industry in mind, and ranges from trailer tracking devices, cargo and door sensors to in-cab devices with everything from an hours-of-service advisor to driver performance scoring to advanced fuel management.
In the cold chain, our devices deliver tracking telematics plus sensors and probes to monitor all types of equipment and cargo conditions like temperature, atmosphere, humidity, shock, vibration, pressure and more.
For connectivity, we offer both cellular and satellite networks, so companies stay connected to their assets and drivers virtually anywhere, even out of cell range or when the cell network is down. And our dual-mode solutions ensure you’re connected to the most cost-effective network.
Data is what connects our solutions to McLeod Software — and our open, modular platforms and flexible deployment architecture allow us to integrate quickly. Whether in the back office or in the cab, we deliver actionable intelligence that helps fleet managers and drivers make the best decisions for the business.
What’s the next big thing in your transportation solutions? We always have our eye on the future. ORBCOMM has more than 400 engineers and technical experts working on new solutions, all based on feedback from the field.
We’re planning to release more than 20 new products and solutions this year that leverage our satellite and cellular networks, ranging from feature enhancements to sensors and

peripherals to product configurations. These projects will offer our customers greatly improved price points, features and performance gains.
What we’re starting to do now is to bring together software and analytics with data from trailer, container and truck telematics, plus multiple sensors inside and on the transport unit. That includes pallet-level sensors that accompany cargo along the whole journey. Stitching all this together will provide an end-to-end view of complex transport chains and help improve the hand-offs between different parties. You can think of it as ‘uninterrupted IoT’. We are hearing that major retailers and producers want that proactive visibility, compliance and quality control over their cargo operations and want to partner with transport and logistics suppliers who can help them.
We’ll also be enhancing our IoT solutions with expanded data analytics, which we use to predict valuable operational information from the data we collect. We will continue to take the lead in developing disruptive industrial IoT technology – from devices to applications to analytics – that connects businesses to their assets to deliver increased visibility and efficiency.
The advancements to come will make it easier for transportation companies to serve their customers, keep great drivers and improve their profits.
