After leaving, I was hired by American Express Travel Service and had many good experiences in the travel industry. Later I switched careers to the medical administration field and have been Chief Operations Officer for a non-profit clinic system in Oregon and Idaho, US for the past 12 years. I’ve recently reconnected with several Surrey classmates, travelling to the UK, Ireland and New Zealand. Lifelong friends from our wonderful University – priceless! I have three grown-up children and a terrific extended family, lots of hobbies, lots to do. See you in 2028 for a 50th reunion!

I got married in 2016 to Marcela Krystkova, a Czech citizen. I continue to work in showbusiness, most often as an actor, though sometimes as a writer and producer/director. I am currently acting at the Royal National Theatre in Peter Gynt by David Hare, and in a sci-fi movie, Sil and the Demon Seeds of Arodor by Philip Martin.
For almost 25 years I have been actively involved in assisting the South African BPO sector, helping stimulate over 50,000 jobs. However, youth unemployment is still inordinately high — exceeding 40 per cent in the 18-35 demographic. My company InterGlobal Management Group (IMG) has partnered with the Mandela Legacy Foundation (Chairman Zondwa Mandela, grandson of Nelson and Winnie Madikizela Mandela) to assist in digital skills up-liftment, to service the growing global RPA and AI requirements. If you currently use off-shore destinations or through your networks know companies that do, please contact me to discuss ways in which we can promote South Africa as a destination of choice. Pictured is me with Matthew Wallace and Zondwa Mandela at the South African Embassy, London.

I met my husband at Surrey — same year, same course, even the same accommodation (Stag Hill). We met in 1982, started dating in 1985, and celebrated our 30-year anniversary in May 2019! I loved Surrey — the small size, the campus environment; it felt very cosy. After graduating, I became demoralised about the low pay in hotels, so I went into software marketing. After two years I was Head of Sales and Marketing for an international software company, backed by 3i, which I loved. When the company was sold to a US software giant, I took four years out to look after my daughter. Then I spent seven years in brand agencies before venturing out on my own. I’ve now been a freelance brand communications consultant for 17 years, and have never looked back.

Since graduating I have worked as an instrumental teacher, solicitor and now Director of Music for Nottingham Girls’ High School, in my 20th year! Proud to have performed four Mozart piano concertos, Paul Creston concertino for marimba and of having conducted many G&S operettas and musicals. Even prouder of my two lovely children and the fact that I can ride a Harley! Such fond memories of Surrey — loved every minute.
Having a medical background, coupled with an engineering course at Surrey, helped me progress in my career acting as a ‘bridge’ between the medical and the engineering disciplines. Currently, I head the Health Services Division of a leading architectural and engineering establishment in Abu Dhabi, UAE, looking after medical technology as well as a senior member of the health planning team involved in the healthcare facility design. I am indebted to Surrey for providing me with the skills, the exposure and the tools to build my career.
