MEASURING SENIOR LIVING'S IMPACT

At the conference, Argentum’s president and CEO, James Balda, introduced Senior Living Impact—a new initiative that shares the story of senior living’s far-reaching impact at both the federal and state levels. In support of the initiative, Argentum partnered with Tripp Umbach, a nationally recognized consulting firm that specializes in economic impact analyses.

At seniorlivingimpact.org, data can be viewed on the senior living industry’s current economic, employment, government revenue, and social responsibility impacts. The research revealed that the industry is responsible for providing over 1.6 million jobs and nearly a quarter of a trillion dollars in total economic impact. This impact outranks several other major industries including the auto manufacturing industry ($205.8 billion); the air transportation industry ($202.8 billion); and the hotel and motel industry ($167.9 billion).

“Those are tremendous numbers that can serve as a framework for critical conversations with a spectrum of stakeholders— including policymakers.”

— James Balda, Argentum president & CEO

CELEBRATING AND SUPPORTING WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

Argentum’s recently launched Women in Leadership initiative served as a focal point at the conference. The initiative, announced in October 2018, is designed to celebrate the contributions women have made to the senior living industry and to create a pathway to the future by forming opportunities for more women to attain leadership and executive-level positions. The conference included a Women in Leadership track and Hive session on issues including mentorship and being an employer of choice, among others. Featured speaker Sarah Thomas, the first female NFL official, shared her success story—rising to the top in a historically male-dominated field.
