JOIE DE VIVRE

DID YOU KNOW?

Renowned architect Le Corbusier proposed a radical urban redevelopment plan of Paris called Le Plan Voisin in 1925. The plan called for the demolition of most of central Paris and its replacement with a grid of 18 identical skyscrapers spread across an open landscape of roads and parks. His motivation stemmed from his frustrations with the dense, disorganised urban fabric of late 19th-century Paris. However, the plan was met with signifi cant backlash from Parisians who saw it as an attack on the historic character of the city, and it was rejected by the city authorities.
