Quercy stone This pale, almost-white limestone is a naturally lighter shade than that quarried in neighbouring regions. You’ll find everything from humble farm buildings to impressive manors built with it. A characterful farmhouse constructed in Quercy stone, with exposed beams and half an acre of garden costs about €235,000.


Farmhouses and smallholdings As you'd expect, given its agricultural heritage and the relative amount of space per inhabitant, the Limousin has no shortage of smallholdings and farms. In Haute-Vienne, I found a detached farmhouse, ready to move into, with an acre of land, and a price tag of just €78,000.

Renovation projects Between 10% and 15% of properties are sitting vacant in this region, compared to around 8%, which is France’s average. This means that you can negotiate a good bargain for a renovation project, starting from €12,000 for a shell needing a complete overhaul to €30,000 for more manageable works.


Cheap family homes Even with a modest budget of just €50,000, you can find a family home with a garden in Limousin that will only need cosmetic work to get it to your taste. You can find homes from €30,000 in each of the three departments, and even a beautiful, detached bungalow in Haute-Vienne with over half an acre for only €80,000.

House with fishing lake Fishing enthusiasts will find their little corner of paradise here, as you can buy your own mini lake for private use starting at €25,000, complete with a small cabin. More extensive properties will set you back about €225,000 but could include a stocked fishing lake and oſten an existing gîte business.


Running businesses If you plan to work for yourself, there’s a choice of properties with up-and- running business, from homes with a small rental annexe to gîte complexes. In Creuse, there’s a detached home with campsite and its own fishing lake for under €250,000, while in the Boissé-Poitevine, a four-bedroom house with a running gîte costs just €230,000.
