SECURITY ISSUE 70 - WINTER 2018

A time for reflection, giving thanks and looking forward to the new year

For our winter issue, as is traditional, we have invited the Chairman of the City of London Crime Prevention Association (CoLCPA), Don Randall MBE, for his views on 2018 and his seasonal message to our readers.

14-15 Threat analysis to passenger Rail Networks

As we come to the close of 2018, we can reflect on a year that has seen the first use of Novichok and the continued reality and threat of international terrorism. This, coupled with the increase in drug, knife and gun crime has clearly stretched the law enforcement ability to deal with these ongoing issues. However, the growth of public/private partnerships remains key to the

prevention and detection of these crimes.

The collaboration between NCTPHQ and the private sector, including the National Step Change programme, Project Servator and the national/regional development of CSSC have all contributed to making the UK a safer place in which to both live and work.

Young people and security - changing perceptions

Cyber security remains a top priority for business and private individuals alike. A range of excellent initiatives exist to combat the threats of illicit cyber activity, including Cyber Griffin in the City of London, and it is essential for this focus to continue in 2019 and beyond.

The professionalisation of our private security industry is integral to the safety and well-being of all UK citizens and its visitors. The Register of Chartered Security Professionals brings recognition and public acknowledgement of senior practitioners within our security sector. Likewise, the Security Commonwealth is now in a strong position to further support UK security vision and preventative initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2019, the future impacts of Brexit are still unknown. Whatever the outcome, everyone within the security sector will continue to care for our people, our property and our lifestyle.

Keeping Team Accelerate safe

Don Randall, MBE, CSyP, Chairman CoLCP Introducing this issue – a festival of ideas for security

P

acked with ideas for security in 2019 and the years ahead, this issue begins with a far-reaching look towards 2050 with a report from the MOD. Following

this, the future risks and threats are examined with views from thought leaders in security. We maintain our focus on cyber security, with advice from the Breck Foundation on keeping young people safe online,. We explore state-sponsored cyber criminality, including a detailed look at the Russian use of hybrid warfare.

As we look forward to the new year, I would like to thank everyone for their continued support, especially our advertisers, authors, my colleagues in the CoLCPA and our Editorial Committee.
